The three guitar fantasies by M. Savichev published in this edition form a cycle that evokes the images of three classic Russian writers for the performer and the listener. These figures have already become mythologized in the public consciousness, absorbing not only the most distinctive features of the authors' creative work, but also contemporaries’ and later critics’ opinions, well-known personal details from diaries and letters, as well as openly anecdotal stories that make no claim to authenticity. This approach has led the composer to adopt a friendly, ironic attitude toward the protagonists of his pieces, resulting in humorous melodies and performance techniques.
